Mainz is the German Rhineland-Palatinate capital and the production scene is small, ZDF is headquartered here so broadcast infrastructure is real but commercial production mostly routes through Frankfurt 30 minutes north or Cologne 90 minutes north on the same Rhine corridor.
German is the working language with reliable English in production.
Crew pool is thin locally, you supplement from Frankfurt or Cologne which is what I would do.
Climate is mild Rhineland with frequent rain.
The Romanesque cathedral, the Gutenberg Museum and the Rhine waterfront give you specific small German city visuals.
Carnival in February genuinely shuts the city for a week, plan around it.
Hotel options around the Hauptbahnhof and the historic centre handle visiting corporate clients well.
Time zone is central European.
