The Venue: Client Office in Geneva
The production took place at the client's office in Geneva. The setting required transforming a standard meeting room into a secure broadcast environment suitable for a formal United States court appearance.
Project Objectives
- Remote Legal Statement: Facilitating a live, high-quality video link for a witness statement to be presented in a US court.
- Simulated Eye Contact: A strict requirement that the subject appear to be "looking the judge in the eye." This required precise camera positioning relative to the prompt/monitor so the subject wouldn't appear to be looking off-camera.
- Zero-Latency Reliability: Ensuring a stable connection without dropouts or sync issues.
On-Site Production Team
We deployed a specialized technical crew experienced in live broadcasting and legal depositions.
- The team focused on signal flow, backup management, and subject coaching to ensure the technical setup didn't distract the witness.
A Real On-Site Challenge and Our Solution
The primary challenge was the combination of psychological pressure and technical risk.
First, the "eye contact" requirement is difficult in remote setups; if a subject looks at a screen to see the remote attorney, they look down or away from the camera lens. Second, because this was for a live court proceeding, a lost connection or equipment failure would have serious legal repercussions.
To solve this, we engineered a fail-safe environment:
- Direct-to-Lens Setup: We arranged the teleprompter/monitor rig specifically so the remote feed appeared directly in front of the camera lens. This allowed the client to look naturally at the person they were speaking to while maintaining perfect eye contact with the camera (and thus, the judge).
- Hardware Redundancy: We built a "shadow rig"—a completely separate backup camera and audio setup positioned right next to the main rig, ready to switch instantly if the primary gear failed.
- Connection Backup: We utilized bonded cellular bonding or a secondary hardline internet connection to ensure that if the office network fluctuated, the stream would remain stable.
The Result
- A flawless remote transmission delivered on January 8th.
- The witness was able to testify comfortably with natural eye contact, satisfying the court’s requirements.
- A verified, broadcast-grade signal that upheld the professional reputation of legalmediainc.
"In a court hearing, you get one chance to get it right. Get Camera Crew understood the gravity of the situation. Their setup for eye contact was ingenious, and knowing they had a full backup rig running gave us total peace of mind. The statement was delivered perfectly." — Representative, legalmediainc
