Capturing a bilingual policy meeting
Some meetings need more than a camera in the room, they need someone who can capture a conversation happening in two languages at once and still make it land the same way for everyone watching afterward. That was the real story behind this one: an official intergovernmental high-level meeting in Skopje, where most speakers presented in English but one or two spoke in Russian, and every word needed to reach the full audience regardless of which language it started in.
We ran a local Skopje crew for the day, a videographer with a full kit and a photographer working documentary-style throughout the meeting, capturing the room as it actually happened rather than staging it after the fact. The real craftsmanship came after filming wrapped, though. We kept every speaker's original audio intact, then built subtitles the other way around each time: Russian subtitles under English speech, English subtitles under Russian speech, clean white text on a soft dark strip along the bottom of the frame, so nothing about who said what in which language ever got lost in translation.
Two edits with bilingual subtitles
From there, in-house editing shaped the footage into two versions, a fuller 3-5 minute video and a tighter 60-second cut, giving ICMPD both the complete record of the meeting and a quick, shareable piece built for a wider audience. For a meeting built entirely around cross-border dialogue, that's the whole point: footage that speaks every language the room did, so the message travels exactly as far as it needs to.
