Beirut for Corporate Video: Lebanon's Historic Mediterranean Capital
Beirut is the capital of Lebanon and historically one of the most important Mediterranean and Middle Eastern commercial cities. The city anchors the Lebanese economy with the major banks (despite the 2019 banking crisis), the substantial diaspora-connected business community, regional operations of multinational firms, and the major Lebanese media industry. We are direct with clients about the operational context: Lebanon has experienced severe economic challenges since 2019 including a banking system collapse, currency crisis (Lebanese Pound lost over 95% of its value against USD), and the devastating 2020 Beirut port explosion. The country continues to navigate these challenges plus regional security concerns. Despite this, Beirut maintains a working corporate production capability, sophisticated media and creative industries, and remains a notable Middle Eastern production location with appropriate operational planning.
Industry Landscape
Banking with the major Lebanese banks (operating through the post-2019 banking restructuring). Media and broadcasting with the major Lebanese broadcasters generating substantial pan-Arab content. Creative industries with substantial Lebanese advertising, design, and production talent. Diaspora-connected business with substantial Lebanese diaspora investment and trade. Tourism (rebuilding from the post-2019 collapse). Some manufacturing.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Downtown Beirut (Solidere, the post-civil war redevelopment area, much damaged by the 2020 explosion and still recovering) holds government, traditional corporate offices, and major hotels. Hamra holds traditional commercial and cultural facilities. Achrafieh holds upscale corporate and residential. The Corniche along the Mediterranean is iconic for brand B-roll. The Beirut port area continues post-explosion recovery.
Crew Base
Beirut has historically been one of the deepest production crew bases in the Middle East, built around the substantial Lebanese media industry, the pan-Arab broadcasting market, and the regional commercial production industry. Despite the post-2019 economic challenges, the creative and production talent remains substantial. Many Lebanese production professionals work regionally across Dubai, Riyadh, Cairo, and other Arab markets.
Climate
Mediterranean. Mild wet winters and hot dry summers. Best outdoor shooting weather April through October.
Production Logistics in Beirut
Reference for projects in Lebanon.
Time Zone
Eastern European Time (EET, UTC+2) winter, Eastern European Summer Time (EEST, UTC+3) summer.
Language
Arabic is the official language. French and English are widely used in business, banking, and international corporate contexts. Beirut is famous for its trilingual professional class.
Currency
Lebanese Pound (LBP). Given the post-2019 currency crisis, USD is widely used and is the de facto business currency. Most international B2B production work is invoiced in USD.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
220V at 50Hz. Type C, D, and G plugs (mixed European, Indian, and UK styles). Bring versatile adapters. Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work. Power supply is irregular given Lebanon's ongoing electricity crisis; all reliable venues have backup generators or solar systems.
Airport
Beirut Rafik Hariri International Airport (BEY) handles direct flights to major Middle Eastern, European, and African destinations. About 15 to 25 minutes from central Beirut.
Operational Context
Lebanon's post-2019 economic crisis and ongoing regional security concerns affect operational planning. Productions plan for power contingency, security protocols, currency considerations, and regional travel restrictions. We monitor the security situation closely and may decline or postpone shoots during periods of acute security concerns.
Permits
The Lebanese General Security and Ministry of Information handle filming permits. Lead times of 4 to 6 weeks are typical for sensitive content. The Beirut port area has additional restrictions following the 2020 explosion.
