Bishkek for Corporate Video: Kyrgyzstan's Central Asian Capital
Bishkek is the capital of Kyrgyzstan and the operational base for nearly all corporate communications work in the country. The Kyrgyz economy is built around mining (Kumtor gold mine is one of the largest gold operations in Central Asia), agriculture, remittances from labor migration (particularly to Russia and Kazakhstan), and a growing services sector. Kyrgyzstan has Central Asia's most democratic political system though the country has experienced multiple political transitions. The major banks include Demir Kyrgyz International Bank, Optima Bank, and Aiyl Bank. For corporate productions involving Kyrgyz business, Central Asian mining, or Silk Road regional content, Bishkek is the natural location.
Industry Landscape
Mining anchored by the Kumtor gold mine (now nationalized, operated by Kyrgyzaltyn) and other gold and rare earth operations. Agriculture with cotton, tobacco, and livestock. Hydroelectric power with substantial generation from mountain rivers. Manufacturing including textiles and garments serving Russian and Kazakh markets. Tourism with the spectacular Tien Shan mountains, Lake Issyk-Kul, and the Silk Road heritage. Remittances and labor migration services.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Central Bishkek around Ala-Too Square holds government, traditional corporate offices, and major hotels. The Chuy Avenue corridor holds modern commercial activity. The Oak Park district holds high-end residential and corporate facilities. Issyk-Kul (about 4 hours by road) holds resort tourism and dramatic mountain backdrops.
Crew Base
Bishkek has a small production crew base. For larger productions, crews are sometimes augmented from Almaty (about 4 hours by road or 60 minutes by air) or Tashkent.
Climate
Continental. Hot summers (often above 35C) and cold snowy winters. Best outdoor shooting weather April through October.
