Muscat for Corporate Video: Oman's Vision 2040 Capital
Muscat is the capital of Oman and the operational center for nearly all corporate communications work in the country. Oman occupies a strategically important position at the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, controlling the Strait of Hormuz and serving as a key Gulf-Indian Ocean trade hub. The Omani economy is anchored by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO, the state oil company), OQ Group (the integrated energy company), Bank Muscat (the largest Omani bank), and Oman Air. The Oman Vision 2040 economic transformation program is driving substantial diversification investment across tourism, logistics, manufacturing, and technology. For corporate productions involving Omani business, Gulf-Indian Ocean trade, or Vision 2040 program communications, Muscat is the natural location.
Industry Landscape
Oil and gas dominate the modern economy with PDO and OQ Group anchoring substantial corporate communications demand. Logistics and shipping built around the Port of Sohar, the Port of Salalah, and the strategic Hormuz position. Tourism and hospitality with rapid growth under Vision 2040 (Oman Air, the major Omani hotel groups, the developing tourism mega-projects). Banking with Bank Muscat, NBO, and the broader Omani financial services sector. Manufacturing with the Sohar industrial cluster.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Al Khuwair holds the diplomatic quarter, government ministries, and major hotels. Ruwi is the traditional commercial center. Madinat as-Sultan Qaboos holds high-end corporate offices and residential. The Opera House district holds the Royal Opera House Muscat (a major cultural venue also used for corporate events). The Muscat Hills and Bawshar areas hold modern corporate developments.
Crew Base
Muscat has a working production crew base, smaller than Dubai or Abu Dhabi but capable for most corporate productions. For larger productions, crews are often augmented from Dubai (about 4 hours by road or a 90 minute flight).
Climate
Hot desert. Extreme summer heat (May through September with temperatures regularly above 40C and high humidity along the coast). Mild winters by Gulf standards. Best outdoor shooting weather November through March.
Cultural Considerations
Oman is among the most culturally open of the Gulf countries while maintaining traditional Islamic norms. Friday-Saturday is the local weekend. Modest dress applies for filming in many locations. During Ramadan, production schedules adjust to accommodate fasting hours.

Language
Arabic is the official language. English is widely used in international corporate and government contexts. Oman has one of the highest English-speaking populations in the Gulf region.
Currency
Omani Rial (OMR), one of the highest-valued currencies in the world (approximately 2.6 USD per OMR). Most international B2B production work is invoiced in OMR or USD.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
240V at 50Hz. Type G plugs (UK standard three-pin). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work given the 50Hz electrical frequency.
Airport
Muscat International Airport (MCT) handles direct flights to most major Asian, Middle Eastern, European, and African business cities. Oman Air is the national carrier. About 15 to 25 minutes from central Muscat.
Filming Permits
The Ministry of Information and the relevant operating company handle filming permits. Lead times of 2 to 6 weeks are typical depending on the content and location. PDO and OQ Group operations have additional internal approval processes.
