Saint-Moritz for Corporate Video: Alpine Luxury and Winter Events
Saint-Moritz is a small alpine resort town in the Engadin valley of Graubunden canton, with a year-round population of about 5,000 that swells substantially during the winter season. The town is synonymous with luxury alpine tourism, hosting two Winter Olympics historically and serving as a top destination for ultra-high-net-worth clients. For corporate production, Saint-Moritz is a niche destination used for luxury hospitality brand work, watch industry communications (the Saint-Moritz Art Masters and similar luxury cultural events attract major Swiss watchmakers), and occasional high-end private client filming.
Production Reality
The high winter season (December through March) drives the majority of corporate work in Saint-Moritz. Luxury hotels (Badrutt's Palace, Suvretta House, Kulm Hotel) host major corporate events, brand activations, and ultra-high-net-worth client gatherings. Summer hiking season also generates tourism brand work. Outside these seasons, the town is quiet.
Industry Landscape
Luxury hospitality is the dominant local sector. Watch and luxury goods brands maintain a regular Saint-Moritz event presence. Private banking and wealth management have a discreet Saint-Moritz client-service role for ultra-high-net-worth clients. Real estate (luxury chalets and apartments) is significant.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
The major luxury hotels (Badrutt's Palace on the lake, Kulm Hotel, Suvretta House, Carlton Hotel) host most corporate events. The lakefront, the surrounding mountains (Corviglia, Corvatsch), and the historic town center provide brand B-roll. Private chalets and ski slopes serve as event locations.
Crew Base
Saint-Moritz has no significant year-round production crew. All production resources arrive from Zurich, Milan, or further afield. Crew accommodation must be secured well in advance for any winter season production.
Climate
Alpine, at 1,800 meters elevation. Long cold winters with reliable snow. Short cool summers. The high altitude means strong sun year-round.
Production Logistics in Saint-Moritz
Reference for projects in the Swiss Engadin.
Time Zone
Central European Time (CET, UTC+1) winter, Central European Summer Time (CEST, UTC+2) summer.
Language
German (with Romansh historically present in Engadin) is the official local language. Italian is widely encountered given proximity to Italy. English is the working language for international luxury and corporate productions.
Currency
Swiss Franc (CHF). Most international B2B production work is invoiced in CHF, EUR, or USD.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
230V at 50Hz. Type J plugs (Swiss-specific). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work.
Airport and Ground Transport
Engadin Airport (SMV) handles limited private and charter flights. Most international arrivals connect through Zurich Airport (ZRH, about 3.5 hours by train or road) or Milan Malpensa (MXP, about 3.5 hours by road). Helicopter charter is common for executive arrivals.
High-Altitude Considerations
Saint-Moritz sits at 1,800 meters elevation. Some crew members may experience altitude acclimatization. Equipment with sensitive battery performance can behave differently in cold high-altitude conditions; we factor this into kit planning for winter shoots.
Permits
Graubunden canton handles filming permits. Lead times of 2 to 3 weeks are typical. For ski slope, mountain railway, or private chalet shoots, additional permissions apply.
Customs and Equipment
Switzerland is not in the EU customs union. ATA Carnets are essential.
