Tashkent for Corporate Video: Central Asia's Largest Capital
Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan and the largest city in Central Asia, with a population of roughly 2.5 million. Uzbekistan has opened significantly to international business since 2017 under economic reforms, and Tashkent is the central hub for that opening. For corporate productions involving Central Asian operations, energy and mining communications, or Belt and Road Initiative-related work, Tashkent is the practical regional base.
Industry Landscape
Oil and gas, mining (gold, copper, uranium), cotton and textiles, and a growing tech and outsourcing sector drive most corporate activity. Foreign direct investment has increased substantially, with Chinese, Russian, Korean, and Western firms establishing or expanding Tashkent operations. The Tashkent Stock Exchange handles domestic listings.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Central Tashkent holds the major hotels, government buildings, and corporate offices. The Mirabad and Yunusabad districts have grown into corporate corridors. International business hotels concentrate near the central area.
Crew Base
Tashkent has a smaller but growing production crew base. Camera and basic kit are available locally. For larger productions, crews are sometimes augmented from Almaty (Kazakhstan), Moscow, or Istanbul depending on the project type and political context.
Climate
Continental. Hot, dry summers with temperatures routinely above 35C. Cold winters with snow. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable shooting weather, though spring can bring dust storms.

Reference for projects in Uzbekistan.
Time Zone
Uzbekistan Time (UZT, UTC+5). No daylight saving.
Language
Uzbek (Latin script in modern use) is the official language. Russian remains widely used in business and education. English is encountered among younger professionals and in international corporate contexts.
Currency
Uzbekistani Som (UZS). Most international B2B production work is invoiced in USD or EUR.
Electrical Standards
220V at 50Hz. Plug types C and F (Schuko-style) are standard.
Frame Rate
50Hz region. Default 25fps for broadcast, 24fps for commercial work.
Airport
Tashkent International Airport (TAS) has direct connections to most major Russian, Turkish, Korean, Chinese, and some European business cities. About 20 to 30 minutes from the central business district.
Permits
Filming in Uzbekistan requires permits coordinated through relevant ministries. Lead times of 4 to 8 weeks are realistic. Filming at government, military, or sensitive infrastructure sites requires additional approvals.
Visa Requirements
Most non-Uzbek crew members will need Uzbekistan business visas, though visa-free regimes apply for a growing list of countries following the 2017 reforms. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks apply where visa is required.
