Tunis for Corporate Video: North Africa's Mediterranean Gateway
Tunis is the capital of Tunisia and the operational hub for corporate work across the country. Tunisia occupies a distinctive position in North Africa: French-speaking in business, geographically close to Europe (a 90-minute flight from Paris, Marseille, or Rome), and politically more open than other regional capitals since the 2011 revolution. For corporate productions involving North African operations, francophone Mediterranean business, or European tech outsourcing operations based in Tunisia, Tunis is the natural choice.
Industry Landscape
Phosphates and mining remain important to the national economy though less to Tunis specifically. Textiles and apparel manufacturing has long been an export-focused sector. Tourism and hospitality, anchored by the Mediterranean coast and the proximity to Carthage, drives significant corporate brand work. The tech and BPO outsourcing sector has grown rapidly, serving primarily European clients given the time zone and language alignment.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
The Centre Ville (downtown Tunis) holds traditional corporate offices and the main hotels. Les Berges du Lac is the modern business district north of the city center, holding many international companies. La Marsa and Gammarth, along the coast, hold luxury hotels and some corporate event venues. The Medina of Tunis (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is iconic for brand B-roll.
Crew Base
Tunis has a working production crew base built around the local advertising market and growing international corporate demand. Camera, sound, and basic kit are available locally.
Climate
Mediterranean. Hot, dry summers. Mild, wet winters. Best outdoor shooting weather April through October.
Production Logistics in Tunis
Reference for projects in Tunisia.
Time Zone
Central European Time (CET, UTC+1). No daylight saving since 2009.
Language
Arabic is the official language. French is widely used in business contexts. English is encountered in international corporate and tech sectors.
Currency
Tunisian Dinar (TND). The Dinar is non-convertible outside Tunisia. Most international B2B production work is invoiced in EUR or USD through approved channels.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
230V at 50Hz. Plug types C and E. Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work.
Airport
Tunis-Carthage International Airport (TUN) handles direct flights to most major European business cities and across Africa. About 15 minutes from central Tunis.
Permits
Filming in Tunisia requires permits coordinated through the Tunisian Ministry of Culture and, for certain locations, additional regional approvals. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks are typical. The Medina of Tunis (UNESCO World Heritage Site) has additional filming protocols.
Equipment Import
ATA Carnets are accepted. Allow extra time for customs processing on arrival, especially for substantial equipment kits.
