Albuquerque for Corporate Video: Tech and Film, Side by Side
Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico and a small but distinct corporate market. Two anchors define what's possible here: the research and defense sector around Sandia National Laboratories and Kirtland Air Force Base, and the rapidly grown film and TV production industry that built up around state tax incentives. The combination gives the city deeper production infrastructure than its size would suggest.
Production Infrastructure
Netflix opened a major production complex (Netflix Albuquerque Studios, the former Albuquerque Studios) in 2018 and has expanded since. NBCUniversal also runs a production hub in the city. The result: experienced camera, sound, lighting, and grip crew are based in town year-round, which is unusual for a market this size. For corporate productions, this means short lead times and access to high-end gear without flying it in.
Corporate Anchors
Sandia National Labs employs over 14,000 people in research and engineering, and Kirtland Air Force Base brings additional defense and aerospace activity. Intel has a major fabrication facility in nearby Rio Rancho. For corporate communications work in defense, aerospace, and semiconductor sectors, Albuquerque is the right local market.
Climate and Locations
The city sits at 5,300 feet elevation with very dry air and over 300 days of sunshine per year. The light is hard and clean: great for exteriors with the right scheduling. The Sandia Mountains rise dramatically to the east and provide distinctive backdrops. Old Town Albuquerque offers Spanish colonial architecture for productions that need a Southwestern look.
Working Realities
For defense-related corporate work, security clearances and base access protocols add weeks to lead times. For commercial corporate work, the market behaves like a much larger production city.

Reference for projects in central New Mexico.
Time Zone
Mountain Time (MT): MST in winter (UTC-7), MDT in summer (UTC-6). New Mexico observes daylight saving.
Language
English is the working language. Spanish is widely spoken and useful for some community-facing productions but not required for standard corporate work.
Currency
US Dollar (USD). Standard US B2B payment methods.
Electrical Standards
Mains is 120V at 60Hz. Type A and Type B plugs. Studio and corporate venues have broadcast-grade power.
Frame Rate
The United States is a 60Hz region. Default frame rates are 29.97fps for broadcast and 23.976fps for commercial and corporate work.
Airport and Travel
Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) is the city's airport with direct flights to most major US business hubs (Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, LAX, Chicago, Atlanta). About 15 minutes from downtown. For executives flying in for a day shoot, Sunport makes Albuquerque one of the easier secondary US cities to reach.
Defense Site Access
For shoots at Sandia National Labs, Kirtland Air Force Base, or contractor facilities, security clearances are required and can take 30 to 60 days to process. Plan accordingly. For shoots in commercial offices and venues outside these sites, no special clearance is needed.
Permits
Exterior shoots on city property generally require a film permit through the Albuquerque Film Office, which is well-organized given the high volume of film and TV production in the area. Lead times are short for commercial corporate work.
