Austin for Corporate Video: Tech Boom and Texas Government

Austin transformed from a college and music town into a major US tech hub over the past decade. As a producer, I have seen the production landscape here change faster than almost any other US city. Apple's largest non-Cupertino campus operates here with over 10,000 employees. Tesla relocated its headquarters to Austin in 2021 and opened the Gigafactory east of the city. Oracle moved its HQ here from California. Dell sits in nearby Round Rock. Add IBM, Google, Indeed, AMD, and dozens of smaller tech firms, and Austin has become a primary US corporate destination outside the legacy hubs.

Where Corporate Shoots Happen

Downtown Austin has the financial and consulting offices, the major hotels, and the Austin Convention Center. The Domain in north Austin is a master-planned tech corridor with offices for several major firms. The University of Texas anchors a research and education cluster. Tesla's Gigafactory sits east of the city in Del Valle.

Major Events

SXSW in March is one of the largest tech and creative industry events in the world and dominates the city's corporate production calendar for two weeks. Austin City Limits Music Festival (October) and the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas (October) also bring significant corporate activity.

Crew Reality

The local production crew base grew rapidly with the tech boom but still tightens during SXSW week. Outside that window, lead times for standard corporate work are short and crew availability is good.

Climate

Humid subtropical. Hot summers with regular triple-digit temperatures June through September. Mild winters. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable shooting weather.

Tech Campus Access

For shoots inside Apple, Tesla, Oracle, or other major tech campuses, internal corporate approval and visitor protocols apply. Lead times vary widely. Tesla's Gigafactory access in particular requires careful coordination.

SXSW Coordination

During SXSW (typically the second week of March), hotel rates spike, crew rates increase, and venue availability tightens. For productions during SXSW week, we recommend booking 8 to 12 weeks ahead.

Permits

City of Austin Film Office handles permits. Lead times are short for standard corporate work outside of SXSW and ACL weeks.
