Dubai for Corporate Video: The Gulf's Event and Media Capital
I have run productions in Dubai consistently over the past decade and the city has earned its position as the corporate media capital of the Middle East. The combination of world-class venue infrastructure, deep production crew base across the media free zones, the global airline hub status of Emirates, and the city's role as a regional headquarters for hundreds of multinationals makes Dubai one of the easiest international cities I work in. For productions targeting MENA, South Asia, or Africa from a corporate communications perspective, Dubai is the operational core.
Industry Landscape
Financial services anchored by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) is a major sector. Trade and logistics built around Jebel Ali Port and Dubai's role as a global trading hub. Tourism and hospitality sit at the heart of the brand. Media and creative industries concentrate in Dubai Media City, Dubai Studio City, and Dubai Internet City, the three free zones that house most regional headquarters for international media, advertising, and tech firms (CNN, BBC Arabic, Reuters, Bloomberg, Google, Meta, and dozens more all maintain Dubai operations). Real estate and construction remain significant.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
DIFC holds the financial services district with the Gate Building, Index Tower, and surrounding skyscrapers. Downtown Dubai holds the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and major hotels including the Address Hotels. Dubai Media City and Internet City hold the media and tech regional headquarters. Business Bay holds modern corporate towers. The Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina hold hospitality and residential brand work.
Major Corporate Events
GITEX (October, Dubai World Trade Centre) is one of the world's largest tech trade shows. The Dubai Airshow (November, biennial) draws global aerospace attention. Arabian Travel Market (May), Cityscape Global, World Government Summit, and dozens of other major B2B events keep the city's venue calendar busy.
Crew Base
Dubai has one of the deepest production crew bases in the Middle East, anchored by twofour54 media free zone in nearby Abu Dhabi and the Dubai-based crews around the media free zones. Equipment rental, post-production, lighting, grip, and broadcast crews are all available at international standard.
Climate
Desert climate. Extremely hot summers (May through September with temperatures regularly above 40C and high humidity). Mild, sunny winters (November through March) offer ideal outdoor shooting weather and coincide with the major event calendar.
Production Logistics in Dubai
Reference for projects in the UAE's largest emirate by population.
Time Zone
Gulf Standard Time (GST, UTC+4). No daylight saving.
Language
Arabic is the official language. English is the working language for most international business and is widely spoken across crew, hospitality, and corporate environments. Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog, and many other languages encountered across the city's diverse population.
Currency
UAE Dirham (AED). Most international B2B production work is invoiced in USD or EUR.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
220V at 50Hz. Type G plugs (UK three-pin). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work.
Airports
Dubai International (DXB) is the home of Emirates and one of the world's busiest international airports. Al Maktoum International (DWC) handles cargo and some passenger flights and is the planned long-term hub. DXB is about 15 to 25 minutes from Downtown Dubai and 30 minutes from DIFC.
Free Zone Filming
For productions inside the media free zones (Dubai Media City, Dubai Studio City, Dubai Internet City), the relevant free zone authority handles filming approvals. The process is generally efficient for international corporate work.
Content Restrictions
UAE content regulations apply. Content critical of the UAE government, royal families, Islam, or certain political topics is restricted. For most corporate communications work, this rarely creates issues.
Permits
Filming in Dubai requires permits through the Dubai Film and TV Commission. Lead times of 1 to 3 weeks are typical for standard corporate work. The commission is generally efficient and corporate-friendly.
