Hollywood for Corporate Video: The Honest Version
Hollywood is technically a neighborhood within the City of Los Angeles, not a separate city. For most corporate clients, when you say "shoot in Hollywood," you really mean "shoot somewhere in greater Los Angeles." The corporate production base sits across Burbank, Culver City, Santa Monica, and Downtown LA more than in Hollywood proper. Hollywood itself is mostly retail, tourism, and the entertainment industry's symbolic real estate.
What Hollywood Actually Offers Corporate Productions
The Hollywood name still carries value for certain shoots: brand association with the entertainment industry, the visual backdrop of the Hollywood Walk of Fame or the iconic sign, and proximity to working studio facilities that occasionally rent space to corporate productions. For investor relations videos from an entertainment company, a thought leadership piece for a media tech firm, or any corporate content where the entertainment connection adds credibility, Hollywood as a location signals something specific.
Where Corporate Shoots Really Happen in LA
Burbank is the operational hub for Warner Bros., Disney, and Nickelodeon, and hosts the bulk of media-industry corporate production. Culver City holds Sony Pictures, Amazon Studios, and Apple's growing TV operation. Santa Monica is the tech and finance corridor west of Hollywood. Downtown LA has the financial district and major hotels for executive interviews. For most corporate shoots, the crew is the same regardless of which LA neighborhood you choose.
Production Infrastructure
Los Angeles has the deepest professional production crew base in the world. Camera, sound, lighting, grip, post-production, and specialty kit are all available at every tier. Equipment rental houses carry every camera and lens system in active use. Lead times for standard corporate productions are usually short outside of major film and TV peak weeks.
When to Shoot
LA's mild climate makes outdoor work possible nearly year-round. Late spring and early autumn offer the most predictable weather. Awards season (January through March) and major LA-based events (E3 in summer, although now restructured) bring crew availability pressure but are unlikely to affect most corporate projects.
Production Logistics in Hollywood and Los Angeles
Reference for projects in the LA metropolitan area, which includes Hollywood as a neighborhood.
Time Zone
Los Angeles is on Pacific Standard Time (PST, UTC-8) and Pacific Daylight Time (PDT, UTC-7) on the standard US schedule. For East Coast clients, the overlap is afternoon LA time. For European clients, only early morning LA time overlaps with European working hours.
Language
English is the working language. Spanish is widely spoken across crew and venue staff in LA, which is useful for some productions but not required for standard corporate work.
Currency
US Dollar (USD). Standard US B2B payment methods apply: corporate credit card, ACH, and wire transfer.
Electrical Standards
Mains is 120V at 60Hz. Plug types are Type A and Type B. For productions shipping European or UK kit, both voltage conversion and adapters are needed.
Frame Rate
The United States is a 60Hz region. Default frame rates are 29.97fps for broadcast and 23.976fps for film and most current commercial work. For European broadcast delivery at 25fps or 50fps, confirm camera settings.
Airports and Travel
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the main international gateway, though it is far from Hollywood (45 to 90 minutes depending on traffic). Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) is closer for many corporate locations and easier for short flights. Traffic across the LA basin is a real factor in every shoot day plan: a 10-mile move can take 45 minutes during peak hours.
Permits
The City of Los Angeles requires film permits for most exterior shoots involving tripods, lighting, vehicles, or crew of more than a few people. FilmLA handles permit applications. Lead times vary from a few business days for simple street shoots to several weeks for high-profile locations like the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
