Luxembourg for Corporate Video: Europe's Financial Microstate
I shoot in Luxembourg regularly because the country punches enormously above its weight in corporate production demand. Despite a total population of just over 660,000, Luxembourg holds the European headquarters or major operations of dozens of global financial services firms, hosts ArcelorMittal (the world's second-largest steel producer), SES Astra (one of the world's largest satellite operators), RTL Group (Europe's largest broadcasting company), and serves as a major EU institutional center alongside Brussels and Strasbourg. The European Court of Justice, the European Investment Bank, the European Stability Mechanism, and the European Court of Auditors all operate from Luxembourg. For corporate productions involving EU institutions, European financial services, fund management, or major industrial corporate communications, Luxembourg is a key operational location.
Industry Landscape
Financial services with a particular focus on investment fund administration is the dominant sector. Luxembourg is the second-largest investment fund domicile globally (after the US) and the largest in Europe. Most major asset managers, custodians, and fund services firms maintain substantial Luxembourg operations. Steel and industry anchored by ArcelorMittal's global headquarters. Satellite communications with SES Astra. Media and broadcasting with RTL Group. EU institutional sector with the European Court of Justice and other major institutions.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Kirchberg (the European Quarter in northeastern Luxembourg City) holds the EU institutions, ArcelorMittal's headquarters, the major banks, and most modern corporate towers. Central Luxembourg City (Ville Haute) holds traditional corporate offices and major hotels. The Cloche d'Or business district holds modern offices including Deloitte and other professional services. Belval (in southern Luxembourg) holds the University of Luxembourg campus and growing tech operations.
Crew Base
Luxembourg has a small but specialized production crew base built around the financial services demand, RTL Group's broadcasting operations, and EU institutional communications. For larger productions, crews are sometimes augmented from Brussels (about 2.5 hours by road or train) or Frankfurt.
Climate
Temperate maritime, similar to Brussels or Western Germany. Warm summers, cool winters. Best outdoor shooting weather April through October.
Production Logistics in Luxembourg
Reference for projects in the Grand Duchy.
Time Zone
Central European Time (CET, UTC+1) winter, Central European Summer Time (CEST, UTC+2) summer.
Language
Luxembourgish, French, and German are all official languages. English is widely used in international financial services and corporate contexts. Most corporate communications are produced in English.
Currency
Euro (EUR). Luxembourg is in the EU and the Eurozone.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
230V at 50Hz. Type C and F plugs (European standard). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work.
Airport
Luxembourg Airport (LUX) handles direct flights to many European business cities. About 15 to 20 minutes from central Luxembourg City. For broader connections, Brussels (BRU) or Frankfurt (FRA) airports are alternatives.
EU Institutional Access
For European Court of Justice, EIB, ESM, or other EU institutional access, advance media accreditation and security clearance are essential. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks are typical.
Permits
Luxembourg municipality handles filming permits. Lead times of 1 to 2 weeks are typical for standard corporate work.
Customs and Equipment
Luxembourg is in the EU customs union. Equipment movements within the EU follow EU single-market provisions.
