Managua for Corporate Video: Nicaragua's Modest Capital
Managua is the capital of Nicaragua and the operational base for nearly all corporate communications work in the country. We are direct with clients about the political and economic context: Nicaragua has experienced significant political tensions since 2018 with international sanctions affecting some sectors. Despite this, the country's banking system (Banpro, BAC Credomatic Nicaragua, LAFISE Bancentro), telecommunications (Tigo, Claro), and major export industries (coffee, beef, manufacturing) continue to operate. For corporate productions involving Nicaraguan business or Central American regional work involving Nicaragua, Managua is the natural location with appropriate operational planning.
Industry Landscape
Banking and financial services with the major Nicaraguan banks generate the largest share of standard corporate work. Telecommunications with Tigo and Claro. Manufacturing including textile and apparel production for international brands at the Zona Franca facilities. Agriculture and agribusiness with coffee, beef, and seafood exports. Tourism is smaller than in neighboring Costa Rica.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Central Managua around the Plaza de la Revolucion holds government facilities. The Carretera Masaya corridor holds modern corporate offices and major hotels. The Metrocentro and Galerias Santo Domingo areas hold commercial and corporate operations. The Zona Franca areas hold manufacturing operations.
Crew Base
Managua has a small production crew base. For larger productions, crews are sometimes augmented from San Jose (Costa Rica), Tegucigalpa, or Panama City.
Climate
Tropical. Hot year-round with distinct dry season (December through April, best outdoor shooting weather) and wet season (May through November).
Operational Context
The political environment requires careful operational planning. We do not engage on politically sensitive content. Standard corporate communications work proceeds normally with established local crew relationships and appropriate venue selection.
Production Logistics in Managua
Reference for projects in Nicaragua.
Time Zone
Central Standard Time (CST, UTC-6). No daylight saving.
Language
Spanish is the official language. English is encountered in international corporate and banking contexts but Spanish dominates.
Currency
Nicaraguan Cordoba (NIO). The US Dollar is widely accepted and commonly used in business. Most international B2B production work is invoiced in USD.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
120V at 60Hz. Type A and B plugs (US standard). Default 29.97fps NTSC or 23.976fps for cinematic work.
Airport
Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) handles direct flights to major Central American and US destinations. About 15 to 25 minutes from central Managua.
Visa and Permits
Most international visitors require visas or entry permits. Filming permits coordinate through the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR) and relevant authorities. Lead times of 4 to 6 weeks are typical.
Operational Considerations
The political environment affects some operational choices. We work through established local relationships and avoid politically sensitive content or locations. Standard corporate productions proceed normally.
