For productions where Manhattan is the right location for the story, the premium is paid for in audience perception. Permits

NYC film permits go through the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME). Interior shoots in private venues do not require a city permit. Exterior work with tripods, lighting, or larger crew needs a MOME permit. Lead times are typically 2 to 5 business days.

Traffic and Movement

Cross-Manhattan moves take longer than mileage suggests. Midtown crosstown in rush hour can run 45 to 60 minutes for a 20-block move. Subway is often faster than driving for crew without equipment vehicles.
