Munich for Corporate Video: What Makes It Work
Munich is the corporate capital of southern Germany and one of the heaviest business event hubs in Europe. The city's economy is anchored by global headquarters including BMW, Siemens, Allianz, Munich Re, MAN, and Linde. For corporate video work, this concentration of decision-makers, executive talent, and big-budget events makes Munich a destination crews fly into rather than just a stop on a regional tour.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Munich corporate shoots cluster around several distinct areas. The city center holds historic hotel ballrooms and conference rooms used for executive summits and press events. Messe München in the east is the main exhibition complex and hosts major trade fairs including Bauma, ISPO, IAA Mobility, and Electronica. The ICM Internationales Congress Center sits next to Messe and handles standalone conferences and corporate keynotes. Schwabing in the north has a strong tech and creative agency presence. Werksviertel near Ostbahnhof is a converted industrial district now home to media, agency, and event spaces.
Executive Travel and Accessibility
Munich Airport (MUC) is one of Europe's busier hubs with direct connections to every major European capital and most large North American and Asian business cities. The S-Bahn S1 and S8 run from the airport to the central station in roughly 40 minutes. For executive talent on tight schedules, car service is more common, with 30 to 45 minute transfer times. Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) connects the city by high-speed rail to Frankfurt, Berlin, Vienna, and Zurich.
Language
German is the working language in most local Munich offices and venues. English proficiency is strong in international corporate environments, technology firms, and the hospitality sector, but not the default the way it is in the Netherlands. For executive interviews with C-level talent at international firms, English works without friction. For coordination with local venue staff, mid-level employees at German companies, or B-roll setups, having a German speaker on the production team helps things run smoothly.
Production Infrastructure
Munich has a deep production crew pool built around the German broadcasting and corporate communications industry. Bavaria Film in nearby Geiselgasteig is one of Europe's larger production complexes and a major resource for studio space, equipment rental, and specialty crew. Beyond Bavaria, the city has working post-production studios, audio mix rooms, and color suites available for fast turnaround projects.
Event Coverage Density
Munich's event calendar is intense but uneven. The city runs heavy in late winter (Munich Security Conference in February, DLD in January) and again in autumn (Oktoberfest in late September and early October, plus multiple trade fairs). Crew availability is tight during these peaks and bookings benefit from a six to eight week lead time. The summer months and the deep winter weeks outside event season are quieter and easier to book on shorter notice.
When Munich Works Best
For most corporate work, late April through mid-July and mid-September through November offer the best balance of crew availability, weather, and venue access. Avoid Oktoberfest dates (mid-September to early October) for non-event shoots. Hotels are booked out across the city, traffic is heavy around the city center, and many crew members are committed to event coverage.
Production Logistics in Munich
Practical information for project planning, executive coordination, and on-site setup.
Time Zone for Client Coordination
Munich operates on Central European Time (CET, UTC+1) from late October to late March, and Central European Summer Time (CEST, UTC+2) from late March to late October. Same time zone as Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, and Zurich. For US East Coast clients, working hour overlap runs from roughly 3 PM to 6 PM Munich time. For US West Coast, the practical window shrinks to early morning or late evening Munich time.
Language
German is the official language and the working language of most local crew, venue staff, and service providers. English is widely used in international corporate environments, technology firms, and the hospitality sector. Briefing documents, talent direction, and on-set communications run in English when working with our international-experienced crew, but venue and vendor coordination off-camera benefits from German fluency. Where this matters, we assign a German-speaking production coordinator to handle local logistics.
Currency and Invoicing
Germany uses the Euro (EUR). Crew day rates, venue fees, equipment rental, and catering are billed in Euro. SEPA bank transfer is the standard B2B payment method. International wire from outside the EU is fine but adds a day or two to clearing. Invoicing follows German VAT rules: VAT is added for German-registered clients and reverse-charged for EU and international B2B clients with valid VAT identifiers.
Electrical and Venue Power
Mains voltage is 230V at 50Hz. Outlets are Type C and Type F (the standard EU two-pin and Schuko plugs). Conference centers and corporate venues in Munich have reliable power and meet professional broadcast requirements. For live streaming at venues with heavy WiFi load (typical at large trade fairs), we recommend wired ethernet drops for the broadcast feed where the venue can provide them.
Frame Rate Region
Germany is a 50Hz region. The default frame rate for European broadcast and most commercial work is 25fps or 50fps. For US delivery in 23.976 or 29.97, crews need to confirm camera settings at the start of each day and watch for flicker risk on shutter mismatches with 50Hz fluorescents in older venues.
Munich Airport and Talent Logistics
Munich Airport (MUC) sits about 35 kilometers northeast of the city center. Direct connections to most major European cities and many transatlantic routes. S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 run from the airport to Hauptbahnhof roughly every 10 minutes and take around 40 minutes. For executive talent on tight schedules, pre-booked car service is faster and more reliable, with transfer times of 30 to 45 minutes depending on time of day and Autobahn traffic.
Permits for Corporate Shoots
Most corporate shoots in Munich happen inside venues, offices, or hotels and do not require a city permit. The venue's own approval is what matters. For exterior shooting on public streets, plain handheld work is usually fine. Permits become necessary when the shoot involves tripods, lighting, vehicle parking, or larger crew. Applications go to the city's permits office and lead times vary from a few days for simple requests to several weeks for sensitive locations like Marienplatz.
Insurance and Venue Requirements
German corporate venues typically require proof of public liability insurance (Betriebshaftpflicht) before allowing crew access. Standard production insurance certificates are accepted. For shoots at sensitive corporate sites (banking, pharma, defense, automotive R&D), expect additional background checks or NDA requirements that add 24 to 72 hours to crew onboarding.
