Osaka for Corporate Video: Japan's Second City and Kansai Industrial Capital
Osaka is the capital of Osaka Prefecture and the major commercial center of the Kansai region (Japan's second-largest economic region after Greater Tokyo). The city anchors the Kansai economy alongside Kyoto and Kobe, and historically holds Japan's merchant culture identity. Major Osaka-based corporates include Panasonic (one of the world's largest electronics firms), Daiwa House (one of Japan's largest construction firms), Sharp, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (with substantial Osaka operations alongside Tokyo), Suntory Holdings (the major Japanese beverage and spirits group, headquartered in Osaka), Mizuho Bank, Nippon Life Insurance, Daikin (one of the world's largest air conditioner manufacturers), Kubota, Takeda Pharmaceutical (Takeda's heritage Osaka operations alongside Tokyo headquarters), and Asahi Group Holdings. The city will host Expo 2025 from April through October 2025, drawing substantial international attention. For corporate productions involving Kansai-headquartered firms, Western Japanese industrial operations, or Expo 2025 corporate work, Osaka is the natural location.
The Kansai Industrial Anchor
The Kansai region holds substantial Japanese industrial capacity distinct from the Tokyo-Yokohama Greater Tokyo economy. Panasonic, Daikin, Sharp, Kubota, and dozens of other major firms generate substantial Osaka-anchored corporate communications. The Kansai industrial culture (rooted in the historic merchant identity of Osaka and the technical heritage of Kobe and Kyoto) shapes a distinctive corporate communication style.
Industry Landscape
Manufacturing dominates the industrial economy with Panasonic, Sharp, Daikin, Kubota (one of the world's largest agricultural equipment manufacturers), Yanmar, and dozens of other major firms. Pharma with Takeda's Osaka heritage operations, Otsuka, and the substantial Osaka pharma industry. Construction with Daiwa House and Sekisui House. Banking with Sumitomo Mitsui's substantial Osaka operations. Beverages with Suntory, Asahi, and the broader Osaka beverage industry. Food with substantial regional food and beverage manufacturing.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Umeda (the major Osaka business district around Osaka Station) holds modern corporate towers, the major banks, and luxury hotels. Honmachi and Yodoyabashi hold traditional corporate offices and the historic financial district. Namba and Dotonbori hold the iconic Osaka commercial and entertainment district (iconic for brand B-roll). Nakanoshima (the island between two rivers) holds modern corporate facilities and the Osaka City Hall. Yumeshima (the artificial island hosting Expo 2025) holds the major event infrastructure through 2025.
Crew Base
Osaka has a substantial production crew base, second only to Tokyo in Japan. The Kansai broadcasters (Kansai TV, Mainichi Broadcasting, Asahi Broadcasting), the regional commercial production industry, and the substantial corporate communications demand support a deep crew pool.
Climate
Humid subtropical. Hot humid summers (with rainy season tsuyu in June and July) and cool dry winters. Best outdoor shooting weather March through May, October through November.

Language
Japanese is the official language. The Kansai dialect (Kansai-ben) is widely spoken and culturally distinct from Tokyo Japanese. English is encountered in international corporate contexts.

Japanese Yen (JPY).
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
100V at 60Hz (western Japan standard). Type A and B plugs (US standard). Default 29.97fps NTSC or 23.976fps for cinematic work given the 60Hz electrical frequency in western Japan.
Airport
Kansai International Airport (KIX, on an artificial island in Osaka Bay) is the main international gateway. Osaka Itami Airport (ITM) handles domestic flights. KIX is about 50 to 75 minutes from central Osaka by Haruka Express train or limousine bus. The Tokaido Shinkansen connects Osaka to Tokyo in about 2 hours 30 minutes.
Expo 2025
Osaka hosts World Expo 2025 from April 13 through October 13, 2025, on Yumeshima island. During the Expo period, accommodation, ground transport, and crew availability tighten significantly. Book well in advance.

Osaka City and Osaka Prefecture handle filming permits. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks are typical for standard corporate work.
