Riyadh for Corporate Video: Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 Corporate Capital
I work in Riyadh increasingly often because the Saudi Vision 2030 economic transformation has reshaped the city into one of the world's most active corporate production markets. Riyadh holds the Saudi government, the Saudi National Bank, Al Rajhi Bank, STC (Saudi Telecom), the Public Investment Fund (PIF, one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds with major holdings globally), and an expanding ecosystem of multinationals establishing Saudi regional headquarters under the RHQ Program. Aramco's headquarters is in Dhahran (Eastern Province), but Aramco-related corporate events and the Future Investment Initiative (FII) summit happen in Riyadh. Layer on top the Vision 2030 mega-projects (NEOM, the Red Sea Project, QIDDIYA), the LEAP technology conference (one of the largest tech events globally), and the rapid hospitality and entertainment industry expansion, and Riyadh ranks among the world's fastest-growing corporate production destinations.
The Vision 2030 Context
The Saudi government's Vision 2030 program is reshaping the economy from oil dependence toward tourism, entertainment, technology, and financial services. Corporate productions involving sovereign wealth investments, mega-project development, technology adoption, hospitality sector growth, and cultural sector openings are continuous. The PIF's global portfolio (significant stakes in Uber, Lucid Motors, gaming companies, sports properties, and many others) drives substantial international corporate content.
Industry Landscape
Government and sovereign wealth (PIF, Ministry of Finance, dozens of Vision 2030 program offices) anchors the corporate communications demand. Financial services with Saudi National Bank, Al Rajhi Bank, and the Saudi exchange (Tadawul). Telecommunications with STC. Technology with the LEAP conference and the rapid growth of Saudi tech firms. Mega-projects with NEOM, Red Sea Global, QIDDIYA, and ROSHN all generating substantial corporate content.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) holds modern financial services towers and major event venues. Diplomatic Quarter holds embassies and high-end corporate offices. Olaya holds traditional corporate and hospitality. The Kingdom Centre Tower is iconic for brand B-roll. The new King Salman Park development is a major future zone.
Crew Base
Riyadh's production crew base has grown substantially since 2017, when the Saudi cultural opening began. Camera, sound, lighting, post-production, and broadcast crews are increasingly available at international standard. For major productions, international crew often combines with local Saudi crew for cultural fluency and government coordination.
Climate
Hot desert. Extreme summer heat with temperatures regularly above 45C in July and August. Mild winters (sometimes cold at night). Best outdoor shooting weather November through March.
Cultural Considerations
Saudi cultural norms have significantly relaxed since 2017 but still differ from Western corporate environments. Female crew members are welcomed in business and production environments. Dress codes have eased substantially but business attire remains relatively formal. Friday-Saturday is the local weekend.
Production Logistics in Riyadh
Reference for projects in Saudi Arabia.
Time Zone
Arabia Standard Time (AST, UTC+3). No daylight saving.
Language
Arabic is the official language. English is widely used in international corporate, government, and Vision 2030 program contexts.
Currency
Saudi Riyal (SAR), pegged to the US Dollar at approximately 3.75 SAR per USD. Most international B2B production work is invoiced in SAR or USD.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
Mixed 127V and 220V at 60Hz. Type G plugs (UK standard) are most common. Default 29.97fps NTSC or 23.976fps for cinematic work given the 60Hz electrical frequency.
Airport
King Khalid International Airport (RUH) handles direct flights to most major business cities globally. About 30 to 45 minutes from central Riyadh. Saudia, Flynas, and major international carriers operate extensive networks.
Visa and Filming Permits
Saudi Arabia has significantly streamlined visa processes since 2019. The Saudi Film Commission and the General Entertainment Authority handle filming permits and incentive programs. Lead times of 2 to 6 weeks are typical depending on content type and government coordination required. Vision 2030 program offices, PIF, and Aramco have additional internal approval processes.
Government Coordination
For shoots involving Vision 2030 program offices, ministries, or sensitive government locations, advance coordination through proper Saudi government channels is essential. Lead times for government access can be 4 to 8 weeks.
Customs and Equipment
ATA Carnets are accepted. Saudi customs procedures have been streamlined significantly under Vision 2030. Allow appropriate time for equipment processing on arrival.
Major Event Dates
Future Investment Initiative (FII) typically late October. LEAP technology conference typically early March. Both bring extreme demand for hotels, crew, and equipment.
