San Juan for Corporate Video: US Caribbean Pharma Manufacturing Hub
San Juan is the capital of Puerto Rico, a US territory in the Caribbean. The city anchors one of the most important pharmaceutical manufacturing markets in the United States: Puerto Rico produces a disproportionate share of US prescription drug supply thanks to historical tax incentives (Section 936 legacy, now restructured under various export and tax programs). Major pharma manufacturing operations on the island include Pfizer, AbbVie, Eli Lilly, Amgen, Bristol Myers Squibb, Merck, AstraZeneca, and Johnson and Johnson. For US pharma corporate productions involving Caribbean manufacturing operations, San Juan is the natural location.
Industry Landscape
Pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing dominates the high-value industrial sector. The Caribbean and Latin American banking and financial services sector has a San Juan presence. Tourism and hospitality is significant. Telecommunications and technology with operations targeting both US and Latin American markets. The financial services sector benefiting from Act 60 (formerly Acts 20 and 22) tax incentives has attracted significant US wealth management and investment firms.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Hato Rey holds the modern financial district (the Banco Popular Center and other major corporate towers). Condado holds traditional corporate offices and the major hospitality. Old San Juan is iconic for brand B-roll and tourism content. The surrounding suburbs (Guaynabo, Bayamon) hold the major pharma manufacturing facilities. Specific pharma plants are scattered across the island, with major clusters in Barceloneta, Caguas, and Manati.
Crew Base
San Juan has a working production crew base built around the local commercial production market and Caribbean tourism industry productions. For larger productions, crews are sometimes augmented from Miami (a short flight north).
Climate
Tropical. Hot and humid year-round. Hurricane season June through November affects production planning, particularly August and September. Best outdoor shooting weather December through May.
