Popular Filming Locations in
Sao Paulo
Sao Paulo for Corporate Video: Brazil's Financial Capital and Latin America's Largest City
I default to Sao Paulo for any major Brazilian or southern Latin American corporate brief. Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil and the largest urban area in the Southern Hemisphere (the metropolitan area holds about 22 million people). The city anchors the B3 (Brasil, Bolsa, Balcao, the major Brazilian stock exchange and one of the world's largest), substantial Brazilian banking (Itau Unibanco, Banco Bradesco, Banco Santander Brasil, Banco do Brasil corporate operations, plus the major Brazilian private banks), substantial Brazilian multinational corporates (JBS the world's largest meat processor, Vale corporate operations, Ambev, Itau Unibanco, Petrobras substantial Sao Paulo operations, plus substantial multinational regional headquarters for Latin America). Major Sao Paulo-anchored corporates include Itau Unibanco, Bradesco, JBS, Embraer, Vale (corporate HQ in Rio but substantial Sao Paulo operations), Natura and Co, plus the substantial Latin American operations of most major multinationals. For corporate productions involving Brazilian business, Latin American regional operations, multinational corporate communications, or distinctive Latin American content, Sao Paulo is the natural location.
The Brazilian Banking and Multinational Anchor
Sao Paulo anchors the substantial Brazilian banking industry with Itau Unibanco (the major Brazilian private bank, one of Latin America's largest banks), Banco Bradesco, Banco Santander Brasil, plus the major Brazilian state bank Banco do Brasil. Layer on top the substantial Brazilian multinational corporate operations (JBS, Ambev, Natura, Embraer corporate operations) and the major Latin American regional headquarters that Sao Paulo hosts for global multinationals (Microsoft Latin America, IBM Latin America, Salesforce Latin America, plus dozens of others), and Sao Paulo holds substantial weight in Latin American banking and corporate communications.
Industry Landscape
Banking and financial services with Itau Unibanco, Bradesco, Santander Brasil, BTG Pactual, XP Inc, plus substantial multinational regional operations. Food and agribusiness with JBS (the world's largest meat processor), Marfrig, BRF, Ambev (the major Brazilian brewer, AB InBev subsidiary). Mining with Vale corporate operations. Cosmetics with Natura and Co (one of the world's largest beauty firms). Tech with substantial Latin American regional tech operations (Microsoft, Google, IBM, Salesforce, plus dozens of others), plus the substantial Brazilian fintech industry including Nubank (the major Brazilian neobank, now one of the world's largest digital banks). Media and entertainment with substantial Globo (the major Brazilian broadcaster) operations, plus substantial commercial production. Manufacturing with substantial Brazilian operations.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Avenida Paulista holds the iconic Brazilian financial district with traditional banking and corporate offices. The Faria Lima business district (Itaim Bibi) holds modern corporate offices and substantial tech and finance operations (sometimes called the Faria Lima Wall Street). The Jardins district holds luxury hospitality and retail. The Vila Olimpia and broader southwestern Sao Paulo districts hold substantial multinational corporate operations. The Pinheiros district holds creative industries. Avenida Berrini holds substantial corporate operations.
Crew Base
Sao Paulo has one of Latin America's deepest production crew bases, built around the major Brazilian film and TV industry (the substantial Globo Studios, plus the broader Brazilian commercial production industry, plus growing Netflix Brazilian productions), the major Brazilian broadcast industry, and frequent international shoots. Camera, sound, lighting, post-production, and broadcast crews are available at international standard.
Climate
Subtropical highland. Mild year-round given the elevation (about 760 meters). Wet season October through March, dry season April through September. Best outdoor shooting weather April through September.
Production Logistics in Sao Paulo
Reference for projects in Brazil.
Time Zone
Brasilia Time (BRT, UTC-3). Brazil discontinued daylight saving in 2019.
Language
Portuguese is the official language (Brazilian Portuguese specifically). English is widely used in international corporate, banking, and multinational regional headquarters contexts. Spanish is encountered in some Latin American regional operations.
Currency
Brazilian Real (BRL). Most international B2B production work is invoiced in USD given BRL volatility.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
127V (some 220V) at 60Hz. Type N plugs (the new Brazilian standard) and older Type C are encountered. Default 29.97fps NTSC or 23.976fps for cinematic work.
Airport
Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) is the major Brazilian gateway, handling direct flights to most major Latin American, US, European, Middle Eastern, African, and Asian business cities. About 30 to 60 minutes from central Sao Paulo depending on traffic. Sao Paulo-Congonhas Airport (CGH) handles domestic flights closer to central Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo traffic is famously difficult.
B3 Banking Facility Access
For Itau, Bradesco, Santander Brasil, Banco do Brasil, or other major Brazilian bank corporate facility access, advance security clearance, NDA execution, and detailed operational coordination apply. B3 quarterly earnings periods have substantial additional disclosure protocols.
Permits
The ANCINE (Agencia Nacional do Cinema) and Sao Paulo Film Commission handle filming permits. Brazil has substantial film incentive programs. Lead times of 3 to 6 weeks are typical for standard corporate work.
