Seoul for Corporate Video: Asia's Tech and Chaebol Capital
Seoul is the capital of South Korea and one of the most important corporate production markets in Asia. The city anchors the global headquarters of Samsung, LG, Hyundai Motor Group, SK Group, Lotte, and the broader chaebol industrial groups that dominate the Korean economy. Layer on top Seoul's status as the global capital of K-pop, K-drama, and the broader Korean Wave cultural industries, the rapid growth of Korean tech firms (Naver, Kakao, Coupang), and the city's role as a major Asian financial center, and Seoul ranks among the world's most active corporate production destinations. As a producer, Seoul is where I default for any major Korean corporate brief.
The Chaebol Anchor
Samsung's main Seoul facilities are in Seocho and Suwon (the broader Samsung complex). LG is headquartered in Yeouido. Hyundai Motor Group is headquartered in Yangjae. SK Group is headquartered in Jongno. Lotte is headquartered in Jung-gu. Each of these groups generates substantial corporate communications work including investor relations, executive interviews, product launches, R&D facility content, sustainability reports, and employee communications. The tech-focused chaebols also drive significant CES Las Vegas activity, Mobile World Congress activity, and similar global event corporate content.
Industry Districts
Gangnam holds the major corporate towers, advertising agencies, and high-end retail. Yeouido (sometimes called Korea's Wall Street) holds the financial district, the KOSPI stock exchange, and major broadcaster headquarters (KBS, MBC, SBS). Pangyo Techno Valley (about 30 minutes southeast of Seoul) holds Naver, Kakao, NCsoft, and many gaming and tech firms. Jongno holds government ministries and historical buildings.
Major Corporate Events
Seoul hosts a substantial event calendar including the Seoul Motor Show, K-Beauty Expo, KBC (Korea Broadcasting Equipment Show), and dozens of industry trade fairs. K-pop and entertainment industry corporate events are continuous given Seoul's role as the K-pop capital.
Crew Base
Seoul has one of Asia's deepest production crew bases, built around the chaebol corporate demand, K-drama and film industries, broadcasting, and the rapidly growing tech sector. Camera, sound, lighting, post-production, and broadcast crews are all available at international standard with specialized chaebol and broadcast experience.
Climate
Continental monsoon. Hot humid summers with monsoon rains July through August. Cold dry winters with occasional snow. Spring (April to early June) and autumn (September to early November) offer the most comfortable shooting weather.
Production Logistics in Seoul
Reference for projects in South Korea.
Time Zone
Korea Standard Time (KST, UTC+9). No daylight saving.
Language
Korean is the official language. English is widely used in international corporate, chaebol, and tech contexts, though Korean is dominant in most internal corporate environments.
Currency
South Korean Won (KRW). Most international B2B production work is invoiced in USD or KRW.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
220V at 60Hz (unusually high voltage for the 60Hz frequency standard). Type C and F plugs (European standard, despite the 60Hz NTSC-region frequency). Default 29.97fps NTSC or 23.976fps for cinematic work given the 60Hz electrical frequency.
Airports
Incheon International Airport (ICN) is the main international gateway, about 60 to 90 minutes from central Seoul depending on traffic and route. Gimpo International Airport (GMP) handles domestic and some short-haul Asian flights, about 30 to 45 minutes from central Seoul.
Chaebol Facility Access
For Samsung, LG, Hyundai, or SK facility access, advance security clearance, NDA execution, and internal communications coordination are essential. Lead times of 2 to 6 weeks are typical depending on the facility and content sensitivity. R&D and unreleased product areas have stricter protocols.
Permits
Seoul Film Commission and the Seoul Metropolitan Government handle filming permits. Lead times of 1 to 3 weeks are typical for standard corporate work. For Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, or other heritage sites, additional cultural heritage permissions apply.
Traffic Considerations
Seoul traffic is heavy during rush hours. Cross-city moves typically take 30 to 75 minutes depending on origin, destination, and time of day. The Seoul Metro is often faster than driving for crew without equipment vehicles.
