Stockholm for Corporate Video: The Nordic Tech Capital
Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and the most important corporate production market in the Nordic countries. The city has built one of Europe's most concentrated tech ecosystems, anchored by Spotify (headquartered here), Klarna (the fintech unicorn), King (the Candy Crush developer), Ericsson (in nearby Kista, often called Mobile Valley), and a vast startup community. Add Stockholm's traditional financial services strength (Swedbank, SEB, Handelsbanken, Nordea all major Nordic banks), the pharma sector (Octapharma, Recipharm, and the broader Swedish life sciences cluster), and major industrial groups (Atlas Copco, Sandvik, Electrolux), and Stockholm ranks as the most diverse and active corporate production market in the Nordic region. As a producer, Stockholm is where I default for any Nordic-spanning corporate brief.
Industry Landscape
Tech and fintech is the defining contemporary sector. Spotify is the most internationally recognized name but the broader ecosystem (Klarna, iZettle now PayPal, Tink now Visa, King, Mojang now Microsoft, and dozens of others) makes Stockholm one of Europe's most concentrated tech production markets. Financial services anchored by the major Swedish banks. Industrial groups (Atlas Copco, Sandvik, Electrolux, ABB has a Stockholm-area presence). Pharma and life sciences are significant. Consumer brands and retail (H&M is Stockholm-headquartered, IKEA design and management has Stockholm operations).
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Norrmalm and Ostermalm hold traditional corporate offices and the major business hotels. Sodermalm holds tech firms (Spotify's main campus is here) and creative agencies. Kista, north of central Stockholm, holds Ericsson and the broader tech corridor. Hammarby Sjostad is a modern tech and creative district. Solna holds modern corporate towers.
Crew Base
Stockholm has the deepest production crew base in the Nordic region. Camera, sound, lighting, grip, post-production, and broadcast crews are all available at international standard, with specialized tech, fintech, pharma, and industrial experience.
Climate
Continental, with significant maritime influence from the archipelago. Long, light summers (near-midnight sun in June and July). Long, dark winters with limited daylight. Best outdoor shooting weather May through August.
Production Logistics in Stockholm
Reference for projects in eastern Sweden.
Time Zone
Central European Time (CET, UTC+1) winter, Central European Summer Time (CEST, UTC+2) summer.
Language
Swedish is the official language. English is very widely spoken across tech, business, and international contexts; many tech companies operate fully in English.
Currency
Swedish Krona (SEK). Sweden is in the EU but not the Eurozone. Most international B2B production work is invoiced in EUR or USD.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
230V at 50Hz. Type C and F plugs (European standard). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work.
Airport
Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) is the main international gateway, about 30 to 45 minutes by Arlanda Express train or road from central Stockholm. Bromma Airport (BMA) handles some regional flights. Skavsta (NYO) handles low-cost carriers but is far from the city.
Tech Campus Access
For shoots inside Spotify, Klarna, Ericsson, King, or other major tech facilities, advance security clearance, NDA execution, and internal communications coordination are essential. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks are typical.
Permits
Stockholm municipality handles filming permits. Lead times of 1 to 2 weeks are typical for standard corporate work. For Gamla Stan (Old Town) or royal palace shoots, additional cultural heritage permissions apply.
Daylight Considerations
Stockholm's extreme seasonal daylight variation affects production planning. December has only about 6 hours of daylight; June has 18-plus hours. Schedule outdoor work accordingly.
