Taipei for Corporate Video: A Tech Capital
Taipei is the operational heart of Taiwan's electronics and semiconductor industry. The city hosts the headquarters or major offices of TSMC, Foxconn, MediaTek, ASUS, Acer, and HTC, plus the regional offices of nearly every major global tech and finance firm operating in Asia. For corporate video work, that concentration of decision-makers and product launches makes Taipei a primary destination on the Asia-Pacific circuit.
Business Districts and Venues
Xinyi District is the financial and corporate core, anchored by Taipei 101 and the Taipei World Trade Center. Most international corporate events happen in this area. Nangang in the east holds the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, the city's largest trade fair venue and host of Computex Taipei each May or June. Neihu in the north is the technology park where many semiconductor and software firms have their offices.
Crew and Production Infrastructure
Taipei has a mature production ecosystem built around the local broadcast, advertising, and commercial industries. Camera, sound, lighting, and post crews are available at international standards. Equipment rental houses carry current-generation cameras and lenses. For specialized requirements (large-scale multi-camera for product launches, motion-control for product hero shots), Taipei has dedicated suppliers serving the local tech industry.
Language
Mandarin is the official language. English is widely used in international tech firms, in the hospitality sector, and at corporate venues, but it is not the working language outside those contexts. For coordination with local crew, vendors, and government offices, having a Mandarin-speaking producer on the team is essential. For executive interviews at international companies, English works fluently.
Event Calendar
The major peak is Computex in late spring. Other large industry events run through autumn. For corporate productions outside event windows, crew availability is good with reasonable lead times.
Production Logistics in Taipei
Operational reference for projects in Taiwan.
Time Zone
Taipei uses National Standard Time (UTC+8) year-round. Same as Beijing, Singapore, and Hong Kong. For US East Coast clients, the working overlap is morning Taipei time (before 11 AM local maps to late evening previous day for New York). For European clients, late Taipei afternoon overlaps with morning Frankfurt or London.
Language
Mandarin is the working language for crew, vendors, and venue coordination. English is standard at international tech companies, business hotels, and major venues. We assign a Mandarin-speaking producer to handle local logistics for international productions.
Currency
Taiwan Dollar (TWD) is the local currency. Crew, equipment, and venue invoicing is in TWD. International wire and corporate card payments are standard for B2B work.
Electrical Standards
Taiwan runs on 110V at 60Hz. Plug types are Type A and Type B (the same flat-pin plugs used in the United States and Japan). European 230V equipment requires both voltage conversion and adapters. For productions shipping kit from the EU or UK, this adds a step worth confirming before departure.
Frame Rate
Taiwan is a 60Hz region. Default frame rates for broadcast and commercial work are 29.97fps or 59.94fps. For European or other 25fps delivery, confirm camera settings each shooting day. Fluorescent lighting in older venues can flicker on certain shutter speeds against 60Hz mains, so test before takes.
Airport and Travel
Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) is the main international gateway, about 45 minutes from central Taipei by Airport MRT or car. Songshan Airport (TSA) sits in the city itself and handles regional flights including direct routes to Tokyo Haneda and Shanghai Hongqiao. Taiwan High Speed Rail connects Taipei to Kaohsiung in roughly 90 minutes for productions covering both cities.
Permits and Office Shoots
Most corporate shoots happen inside offices, hotel conference rooms, or rented venues and do not require city permits. Exterior shooting on public streets generally tolerates handheld work without formal permits, but tripod-based setups or larger crew at iconic locations (Taipei 101 plaza, Ximending) should be coordinated in advance.
