Tbilisi for Corporate Video: Georgia's Capital and Caucasus Hub
Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia and the largest urban center in the South Caucasus region. Georgia is a small (about 3.7 million people) but strategically positioned country between Europe and Asia, with substantial historical and cultural connection to both regions. The modern Georgian economy is built around hydropower (Georgia has substantial hydroelectric resources, exporting electricity to neighboring Turkey), tourism (Tbilisi's historic old town is increasingly popular with European visitors, and the Georgian wine industry attracts substantial enotourism), banking (the major Georgian banks are TBC Bank and Bank of Georgia, both London Stock Exchange-listed), some manufacturing, and substantial transit trade between Asia and Europe. The country aspires to EU and NATO membership and maintains strong Western alignment. Note: Russia continues to occupy parts of Georgia (Abkhazia and South Ossetia) following the 2008 war; productions should be aware of regional sensitivities. For corporate productions involving Caucasus regional business, Georgian banking or wine industry, or distinctive Caucasus cultural content, Tbilisi is the natural location.
Industry Landscape
Banking with TBC Bank and Bank of Georgia (both London Stock Exchange-listed). Hydropower with substantial Georgian hydroelectric industry. Tourism with growing international visitor numbers centered on Tbilisi and the Georgian wine regions. Wine production with Georgia's substantial heritage as one of the world's oldest wine-producing cultures (Georgian qvevri winemaking is UNESCO-recognized). Transit and logistics with substantial Caucasus trade routes. Tech with a small but growing tech sector (Georgia has positioned itself as a regional tech hub with favorable tax structures).
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Old Tbilisi (the UNESCO heritage historic district) holds the iconic Georgian architecture for distinctive brand B-roll. The Rustaveli Avenue and central Tbilisi hold traditional corporate offices and major hotels. The modern Saburtalo district holds corporate operations. The Kakheti wine region (about 90 minutes east) holds substantial wine production. The Sno valley and Kazbegi region hold dramatic Caucasus landscape.
Crew Base
Tbilisi has a small but growing production crew base. For larger productions, crews are sometimes augmented from Istanbul, Yerevan (Armenia), or other regional locations.
Climate
Humid subtropical with continental influence. Hot dry summers and cold winters. Best outdoor shooting weather April through June, September through October.
Production Logistics in Tbilisi
Reference for projects in Georgia.
Time Zone
Georgia Standard Time (GET, UTC+4). Georgia does not observe daylight saving.
Language
Georgian is the official language. English is widely used in international corporate, tourism, and tech industry contexts. Russian is still encountered in business contexts though declining in use. Georgia uses the unique Georgian alphabet.
Currency
Georgian Lari (GEL). USD and EUR are widely accepted in tourism contexts. Most international B2B production work is invoiced in USD or EUR.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
220V at 50Hz. Type C and F plugs (European standard). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work.
Airport
Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) handles direct flights to major European cities (with growing direct connections), Middle Eastern hubs, and regional Caucasus and Central Asian destinations. About 20 to 30 minutes from central Tbilisi.
Regional Security
Russia continues to occupy parts of Georgia (Abkhazia and South Ossetia) following the 2008 war. Travel near these areas is not permitted. The rest of Georgia operates under standard tourism and business conditions, but productions should be aware of regional sensitivities.
Permits
The Georgian National Film Center and Tbilisi municipality handle filming permits. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks are typical for standard corporate work. Georgia has a 20% to 25% cash rebate film incentive program.
