Washington for Corporate Video: Government, Defense, and Trade Associations
Washington DC's corporate identity is defined by its role as the US federal capital. The major corporate clients in DC fall into distinct categories: defense contractors (Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Booz Allen Hamilton, General Dynamics, all with major Northern Virginia operations), trade associations (PhRMA, AHIP, BIO, the Chamber of Commerce, and hundreds more), think tanks (Brookings, AEI, CSIS, Heritage), and international organizations (World Bank, IMF, IFC). For corporate productions in these sectors, DC is the primary US location.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
The K Street corridor holds law firms, lobbying offices, and trade associations. Downtown DC, around Penn Quarter and the Mall, has the major hotels and the convention center. Capitol Hill is the seat of Congress and the executive branch agencies. Across the Potomac, Arlington and Tysons Corner in Virginia hold many defense contractors. Bethesda in Maryland has NIH and major medical research institutions.
Permits and Security
DC filming is more permit-intensive than most US cities because of federal facilities and security considerations. The National Mall requires National Park Service permits. The Capitol grounds require coordination with the Architect of the Capitol. Federal buildings require their own internal approvals. Plan accordingly.
Crew Base
DC has a deep production crew base built around the news industry, government communications, and trade association webinar production. Equipment, lighting, and post-production are all available at international standard.
Major Events
The annual presidential inauguration (every four years in January). Trade association annual meetings. Congressional sessions create ongoing demand for hearing coverage and policy communications work.

Airports
Reagan National (DCA) is the closest to downtown (5 minutes by Metro). Dulles International (IAD) handles most international traffic. Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) is about 30 minutes from downtown.
Federal Building Access
Filming inside federal buildings requires advance approval from the relevant agency. Lead times vary from 2 to 8 weeks. Security clearance for crew is sometimes required for sensitive facilities.
National Mall and Capitol Permits
National Park Service permits for the National Mall require 2 to 4 weeks lead time. Capitol grounds permits go through the Architect of the Capitol office. Press credentials may substitute for some news coverage.
Permits
DC Film Office handles permits for shoots on DC streets. Lead times are typically 1 to 2 weeks.
