Bucharest for Corporate Video: Romania's Growing EU Tech and Finance Hub
I have shot in Bucharest more often over the past few years as Romania has become one of the EU's most active emerging tech and corporate markets. Bucharest is the capital of Romania, the largest city in Southeastern Europe, and home to UiPath (the robotic process automation pioneer that originated in Bucharest before its global expansion), Bitdefender (the major cybersecurity firm), BCR and BRD-Groupe Societe Generale (the major banks), Orange Romania, OMV Petrom (energy), and a substantial multinational shared services and IT outsourcing sector. For corporate productions involving EU emerging markets, Romanian tech, or Central and Eastern European business communications, Bucharest is a useful operational base.
Industry Landscape
Tech and IT outsourcing has grown rapidly with UiPath, Bitdefender, and a substantial ecosystem of Romanian and international tech firms operating Bucharest development centers. Banking with BCR, BRD, Raiffeisen, ING Romania, and others. Energy with OMV Petrom and the broader Romanian oil and gas sector. Pharma and life sciences with regional operations. Shared services and BPO at scale; major multinationals use Bucharest for European back-office operations.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
The Pipera and Floreasca areas hold the modern tech corporate towers and the major multinational shared services operations. The historic center holds traditional corporate offices and major hotels. The Aviatorilor area holds the diplomatic quarter and high-end corporate buildings. Otopeni (near the airport) holds modern industrial and logistics operations.
Crew Base
Bucharest has a working production crew base built around the local commercial production market and the substantial Romanian film industry (Romanian cinema has had significant international recognition, supporting deep crew capability). For larger productions, crews are sometimes augmented from Vienna or Sofia.
Climate
Continental, with hot summers and cold winters. Best outdoor shooting weather April through October.
Production Logistics in Bucharest
Reference for projects in Romania.
Time Zone
Eastern European Time (EET, UTC+2) winter, Eastern European Summer Time (EEST, UTC+3) summer.
Language
Romanian is the official language. English is widely used in tech, business, and international corporate contexts.
Currency
Romanian Leu (RON). Romania is in the EU but not yet in the Eurozone (target adoption uncertain). Most international B2B production work is invoiced in EUR or USD.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
230V at 50Hz. Type C and F plugs (European standard). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work.
Airport
Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport (OTP) handles direct flights to most major European business cities. About 30 to 45 minutes from central Bucharest depending on traffic.
Permits
Bucharest municipality handles filming permits. Lead times of 1 to 2 weeks are typical for standard corporate work. The Romanian Film Centre coordinates national-level permits and incentive programs.
Customs and Equipment
Romania is in the EU customs union. Equipment movements within the EU follow EU single-market provisions.
