Colombo is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka and the operational hub for nearly all corporate communications work in the country. The Sri Lankan economy went through a severe currency crisis in 2022 and the recovery is ongoing; we are honest about this context with international clients. Industry Landscape

Apparel and garments manufacturing for international brands (MAS Holdings, Brandix, Hirdaramani) is the largest export sector. IT and BPO outsourcing has grown rapidly with WSO2, Virtusa, IFS, and dozens of others operating from Colombo. Tea industry corporate work continues as Sri Lanka remains a major global tea exporter. Tourism and hospitality drive significant brand work. The Port of Colombo is one of the largest container ports in South Asia.

Colombo Fort and Galle Face hold traditional corporate offices, financial services, and the major business hotels. Cinnamon Gardens (Colombo 7) holds embassies, high-end offices, and luxury hotels. Rajagiriya and Battaramulla hold modern corporate offices and government facilities. The Port City Colombo (the new reclaimed land development) is a growing financial district.

Crew Base

Colombo has a working production crew base built around the local advertising market, the tea industry's heritage corporate work, and the growing IT sector. For larger productions, crews are sometimes augmented from Mumbai, Bangalore, or Singapore.

Tropical. Hot and humid year-round. Two monsoon seasons: southwest monsoon (May to September) and northeast monsoon (December to February). Best outdoor shooting weather January and February and during inter-monsoon periods.

Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) handles direct flights to major Asian and Middle Eastern business cities. About 45 minutes from central Colombo.

Permits

Filming in Sri Lanka requires permits through the relevant government authorities and, for heritage sites, additional cultural authority approvals. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks are typical.
