Fuji for Corporate Video: Shizuoka City at the Foot of Japan's Iconic Mountain
Fuji is a city in Shizuoka Prefecture sitting at the southern foot of Mount Fuji (Fujisan, UNESCO World Heritage and Japan's most recognized natural and cultural symbol). The city's economy is built around paper manufacturing (Fuji is one of Japan's most important paper production centers, with major operations from Oji Paper, Nippon Paper, and other major Japanese paper companies), some chemical and electronics manufacturing, and tourism connected to the iconic mountain. For corporate productions involving Japanese paper industry coverage, Mount Fuji brand B-roll (the iconic mountain views from Fuji city and the surrounding area are some of the most photographed in Japan), or central Honshu manufacturing, Fuji is a working option. Most major corporate production coordinates through Tokyo (about 90 minutes by shinkansen from Mishima station) or Shizuoka city.
Industry Landscape
Paper manufacturing dominates the industrial economy with Oji Paper, Nippon Paper Industries, and other major Japanese paper companies operating substantial Fuji-area plants. Chemical manufacturing including some pharmaceutical intermediates. Electronics manufacturing. Tourism with Mount Fuji as the iconic anchor (the Chureito Pagoda viewpoint, the Fuji Five Lakes region, and various viewing locations generate substantial photography and brand work).
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
Central Fuji city holds traditional corporate offices and major hotels. The Fuji paper industry operations are scattered across the city's industrial areas. The Mount Fuji viewing locations (Tagonoura, Miho no Matsubara further south, the Chureito Pagoda further northwest in Yamanashi prefecture) hold the iconic brand B-roll. The Fuji Five Lakes region (Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Yamanaka) about 60 minutes north holds substantial tourism infrastructure.
Crew Base
Fuji corporate productions are typically crewed from Tokyo (about 90 minutes by shinkansen) or Shizuoka city. The local crew base is small.
Climate
Temperate. Mild winters and warm humid summers. Mount Fuji visibility is best in winter months (clearer air) and least reliable in summer (haze and clouds). Best outdoor shooting weather October through March for clear Mount Fuji views.
Production Logistics in Fuji
Reference for projects in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Time Zone
Japan Standard Time (JST, UTC+9). No daylight saving.
Language
Japanese is the official language. English is encountered in international corporate contexts but Japanese dominates.
Currency
Japanese Yen (JPY).
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
100V at 50Hz (eastern Japan standard). Type A and B plugs (US standard). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work given the 50Hz electrical frequency. (Note: Japan splits 50Hz/60Hz across the country; Fuji is in the eastern 50Hz region while Hiroshima is in the western 60Hz region.)
Airport
Tokyo Narita (NRT) and Tokyo Haneda (HND) are the main gateways. Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport (FSZ) handles limited domestic and East Asian flights. Tokyo airports connect to Mishima station via shinkansen in about 90 minutes for Fuji access.
Mount Fuji Viewing
Mount Fuji visibility is highly weather-dependent. The mountain is visible most reliably in winter (November through February) when air is clearest. Summer (June through August) often brings haze that obscures the summit. Productions seeking iconic clear Mount Fuji shots should schedule with weather flexibility.
Permits
Shizuoka Prefecture and Fuji city government handle filming permits. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks are typical. For Fujisan UNESCO World Heritage area shoots, additional cultural heritage permissions apply.
