Hanoi for Corporate Video: Vietnam's Government and Tech Capital
Hanoi is the political capital of Vietnam and an increasingly important corporate destination for productions targeting Southeast Asia. While Ho Chi Minh City still leads on commercial activity and finance, Hanoi holds the central government, the state-owned enterprise headquarters, and a rapidly growing tech and outsourcing sector. For productions involving Vietnamese government communications, central bank or ministry coordination, or tech outsourcing relationships, Hanoi is the right location.
Industry Landscape
Government and state-owned enterprises drive most of the city's corporate calendar. VinGroup (Vietnam's largest private conglomerate), FPT Corporation, and Viettel hold major Hanoi headquarters or operations. Foreign tech firms (Samsung, LG, Canon, Bosch) maintain significant Hanoi manufacturing and R&D footprints. The Hanoi Stock Exchange handles smaller listings while the Ho Chi Minh exchange handles the larger ones.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
The Ba Dinh district holds the Presidential Palace, government ministries, and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. The Old Quarter is a traditional and tourism-heavy area, useful for some brand work but tightly regulated. Tay Ho district holds the diplomatic and expatriate community and many foreign corporate offices. Cau Giay district is the emerging tech and corporate corridor.
Crew and Equipment
Hanoi has a growing production crew base. Camera, sound, and basic kit are available locally. For larger productions or specialty equipment, crews are sometimes augmented from Ho Chi Minh City (where the larger production market sits) or Bangkok.
Climate
Hanoi has four distinct seasons. Hot, humid summers (May to September) with monsoon rains. Cool, dry winters (December to February). Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable shooting weather.
Production Logistics in Hanoi
Reference for projects in northern Vietnam.
Time Zone
Indochina Time (ICT, UTC+7). No daylight saving. For European clients, late afternoon Hanoi time overlaps with European morning. For US clients, the time difference is significant.
Language
Vietnamese is the working language. English fluency varies by industry; tech and tourism sectors generally have good English access. Production briefings often need Vietnamese-language coordinator support.
:Currency
Vietnamese Dong (VND). Most B2B production work is invoiced in USD for international clients.
Electrical Standards
220V at 50Hz. Plug types A, C, and G all encountered. International equipment may need adapters.
Frame Rate
50Hz region. Default 25fps for broadcast PAL, 24fps or 23.976fps for commercial work.
Airport
Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) is the main gateway with direct flights to most major Asian and some European business cities. About 45 minutes from central Hanoi.
Permits
Filming in Vietnam requires permits from the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism for most professional production work. Lead times of 4 to 8 weeks are realistic. Filming near government buildings, military areas, or sensitive locations requires additional approvals.
Visa Requirements
Most non-Vietnamese crew members will need Vietnam business visas. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks apply. For some nationalities (ASEAN members), visa-free entry is available.
