Madrid for Corporate Video: Spain's Corporate and Financial Capital
Madrid is the capital of Spain and the most important corporate production market in Iberia. The city anchors the global headquarters of Telefonica, BBVA, Banco Santander, Repsol, IAG (the parent of Iberia and British Airways), Inditex group corporate operations, Iberdrola, ACS construction, and dozens of other major multinationals. For corporate productions targeting Spain, Latin America (Madrid is the natural bridge given language and corporate links), or Iberian-Atlantic business communications, Madrid is the operational core. As a producer, Madrid is where I default for any major Spanish corporate brief.
The Corporate Anchor
Telefonica's Distrito Telefonica campus in Las Tablas is one of Europe's largest corporate campuses. BBVA's Ciudad BBVA in Las Tablas is similarly substantial. Banco Santander's Boadilla del Monte campus on the outskirts holds the global headquarters of one of Europe's largest banks. Repsol's headquarters near Castellana drives energy industry corporate work. IAG's operations in Madrid Barajas anchor aviation industry communications. The major hotel groups (Melia Hotels International, NH Hotels) are Madrid-headquartered.
Industry Districts
The Castellana axis from Plaza de Castilla through Cuatro Torres holds the financial and corporate towers (BBVA, Santander, ACS, KPMG, Deloitte all have major Castellana presences). AZCA holds traditional financial services. Salamanca district holds high-end retail, professional services, and family offices. Las Tablas and the northern industrial periphery hold Telefonica, BBVA, and major corporate campuses. The Centro and Recoletos areas hold government, embassies, and traditional businesses.
Major Corporate Events
Madrid hosts a substantial event calendar centered on IFEMA Madrid, including FITUR (the world's largest tourism trade fair, January), ARCO (the major contemporary art fair, February), Madrid Fashion Week, and dozens of industry trade fairs. Iberoamerican business summits and Latin America regional events anchor Madrid's role as a Iberoamerican corporate gateway.
Crew Base
Madrid has one of Europe's deepest production crew bases outside the major Northern European capitals. Camera, sound, lighting, grip, post-production, and broadcast crews are all available at international standard with specialized financial services, energy, and pharma experience.
Climate
Continental, with hot dry summers and cold winters. July and August can be extremely hot. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable shooting weather. Madrid's high elevation (about 650 meters) creates clear dry air ideal for outdoor cinematography most of the year.
Production Logistics in Madrid
Reference for projects in central Spain.
Time Zone
Central European Time (CET, UTC+1) winter, Central European Summer Time (CEST, UTC+2) summer.
Language
Spanish is the official language. English is widely used in international corporate, banking, and tech contexts.
Currency
Euro (EUR).
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
230V at 50Hz. Type C and F plugs (European standard). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work.
Airport
Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) is Spain's largest airport, home to Iberia and a major Latin American gateway. Direct flights to most major business cities globally. About 20 to 40 minutes from central Madrid depending on traffic and destination.
Corporate Campus Access
For shoots inside BBVA's Ciudad BBVA, Telefonica's Distrito Telefonica, Santander's Boadilla campus, or other major corporate sites, advance security clearance, NDA execution, and internal communications coordination are essential. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks are typical.
Summer Heat Considerations
Madrid summers (July and August) can be extremely hot. For outdoor productions during these months, schedule early morning or late evening shooting. Many businesses also have reduced August schedules.
Permits
Madrid City Hall (Ayuntamiento de Madrid) handles filming permits. For Royal Palace, Retiro Park, Prado Museum, or heritage area shoots, additional cultural heritage authority approvals apply. Lead times of 1 to 3 weeks are typical for standard corporate work.
