Tangier
Tangier for Corporate Video: Morocco's Gateway to Europe
Tangier sits at the northern tip of Morocco at the Strait of Gibraltar, just 14 kilometers from Spain. The city has transformed over the past two decades from a faded port town into one of the fastest-growing industrial centers in North Africa, anchored by the Tanger-Med port complex (one of the largest container ports in Africa and the Mediterranean) and the surrounding industrial free zones. Renault, Stellantis (the Peugeot-Citroen-Fiat-Chrysler combination), and a broad automotive supply chain operate substantial plants in the Tangier region. The city also serves as the operational base for north Morocco's substantial textile and aerospace manufacturing. For corporate productions involving Moroccan industrial manufacturing, the Tanger-Med logistics hub, or Mediterranean trade content, Tangier is the natural location.
The Tanger-Med Anchor
Tanger-Med (about 40 kilometers east of Tangier proper) is Africa's largest port by container traffic and one of the largest in the Mediterranean. The complex includes container terminals, automotive export terminals, and major industrial free zones hosting Renault's Tangier plant (the company's largest plant outside France), Yazaki, Lear Corporation, and dozens of automotive and electronics suppliers. The port generates substantial corporate communications work around logistics, automotive exports, and the broader Moroccan industrial story.
Industry Landscape
Automotive manufacturing anchored by Renault and Stellantis is the major industrial sector. Aerospace with Bombardier, Stelia Aerospace, and the broader Tangier aerospace cluster. Textiles with substantial operations serving European brands. Logistics built around Tanger-Med. Tourism with the historic medina and beach resorts. Banking with regional operations of Attijariwafa Bank, Banque Populaire, and BMCE Bank.
Where Corporate Shoots Happen
The Tanger-Med complex and the associated free zones hold the major industrial operations. Central Tangier and the historic medina hold the cultural and brand B-roll opportunities. The Malabata district and the modern Tangier waterfront hold contemporary corporate offices and the major hotels.
Crew Base
Tangier has a small but capable production crew base. For larger productions, crews are typically augmented from Casablanca (about 3.5 hours by road or a 60 minute flight) or Madrid (about 90 minutes by ferry plus air connection).
Climate
Mediterranean. Mild wet winters and warm dry summers. Best outdoor shooting weather April through October. Coastal influence brings reliable but sometimes windy conditions.
Production Logistics in Tangier
Reference for projects in northern Morocco.
Time Zone
Western European Time (WET, UTC+0) and Western European Summer Time (WEST, UTC+1). Morocco's daylight saving observation is complex with adjustments during Ramadan. Confirm current local time when planning.
Language
Arabic and Berber are official languages. French is widely used in business, government, and international corporate contexts. Spanish is also encountered given the historical and geographic proximity to Spain. English is increasingly common in international corporate settings.
Currency
Moroccan Dirham (MAD). The dirham is not freely convertible outside Morocco; most international B2B production work is invoiced in EUR or USD.
Electrical Standards, Frame Rate
220V at 50Hz. Type C and E plugs (European standard). Default 25fps PAL or 23.976fps for commercial work given the 50Hz electrical frequency.
Airport
Tangier Ibn Battuta International Airport (TNG) handles direct flights to many European business cities. About 15 to 25 minutes from central Tangier. The al-Boraq high-speed rail connects Tangier to Casablanca in about 2 hours 10 minutes, the fastest high-speed rail line in Africa.
Industrial Facility Access
For Tanger-Med port, Renault, Stellantis, or other industrial facility access, advance security clearance, NDA execution, safety protocols (PPE, escort, safety briefing), and operational coordination apply. Lead times of 4 to 8 weeks are typical.
Permits
The Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) handles national filming permits. Tangier local authorities coordinate municipal permits. Lead times of 2 to 4 weeks are typical for standard corporate work.
Customs and Equipment
ATA Carnets are accepted. Allow appropriate time for equipment processing on arrival.
